Air quality in Portsmouth

We have been assessing local ambient air quality in the City for several years.

Following the 2004 local air quality Detailed Assessment, 13 areas which were predicted to exceed the annual nitrogen dioxide National Air Quality Objective (NAQO) were identified.  These areas were declared as Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) in 2005.

Following the 2009 local air quality Further Assessment, 8 out of the 13 AQMAs were predicted to meet the NAQO.  These AQMAs were revoked in 2010:

  • Revoked AQMAs are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, and 13
  • Retained AQMAs are 6, 7, 9, 11, and 12
